My Job
I am not a career politician or lawyer. I work, just like you.
Having done various other useful things in life, my wife and I both turned most recently to the task of contributing personally to national defense. Liz works at the Veterans Administration helping our soldiers, in Appeals. I work on our advanced weaponry. The following is unclassified.
The tip of the sword of Western ground power is the Abrams tank. The computer controlled gunnery it carries continues to be fundamentally enhanced to increase its effective projected power while further protecting the soldiers who operate it.
The latest generation turret weapon station, of which there are presently only two prototypes in the world, experiences a series of individual tests as it goes through the production process. At the very last station on the line, it is clamped to a simulator motion base. Recordings which have been taken from actual tanks on real terrain are played into this simulator, and the turret is moved just as it would be in conflict situations while its ability to maintain a lock on its targets is measured and verified. Thus, in this drill the equipment "feels" as though it is in real battle before it leaves the factory.
I am the Progam Manager of this station. If my test is passed, it goes into the U.S. or allied inventory.
It is a really cool job. The task will be completed well before November. I know my country is depending on me.
My state is in deep trouble now, and it is time to help there.
